TSA Critical Pipeline Cybersecurity Assessment Framework

TSA Critical Pipeline Cybersecurity Assessment Framework

TSA’s Critical Pipeline Cybersecurity Assessment Framework Available From SecurityGate.io Platform For Rapid Assessment Completion And Immediate Risk Insight Results

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—HOUSTON, TX—JUNE 14, 2021—SecurityGate.io, the #1 risk management SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) platform for industrial cybersecurity, today announced they are making available the cybersecurity assessment framework for critical pipeline owners and operators from the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

The availability of this framework inside SecurityGate.io’s platform means pipeline owners and operators can rapidly complete this assessment leveraging digital automation, instead of time-consuming manual efforts that put them at risk of missing DHS’s 30 day response requirement.

On May 27, 2021, DHS announced a security directive requiring critical pipeline owners and operators to report confirmed and potential cybersecurity incidents. DHS’s TSA provided a framework for security professionals to use for assessing their operations and requires the results to be submitted within 30 days of that announcement. Letters (shown below) were also sent to pipeline owners and operators giving them notice of the directive.

The problem with this directive is that for industrial organizations, current cybersecurity assessments of operational technology (OT) environments are manual procedures that are very time-consuming. SecurityGate.io is purpose-built for industrial cybersecurity assessments and focused on a mission of helping industrial companies move faster in making cybersecurity improvements.

The SecurityGate.io SaaS platform takes what is often several weeks or months of manual work to complete a cyber assessment and turns it into a digital process that only takes a few hours to complete. Results are shown in the form of automated reports, performance metrics, and cyber risk insights in a secure dashboard.

The threat to our national infrastructure is real and cyber attacks are increasing in frequency. Addressing the recent surge in ransomware attacks, after the Colonial Pipeline incident, the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) published a fact sheet on June 9, 2021, putting a spotlight on the threat to OT assets.

“As soon as the TSA framework came out we moved that to our top priority for our platform’s new capabilities. The fact is, without digital automation, industrial cyber assessments take a lot of time and put a tremendous amount of strain on a company’s operations team,” said Bill Lawrence, Chief Information Security Officer at SecurityGate.io. “Making this assessment framework available in the SecurityGate.io platform means these pipeline companies will not only be able to complete the assessment faster, they’ll also have a full understanding of where their cybersecurity gaps are along with what to do about them.”
